Studios Release Date: November 7, 2012 Cover Price: $1.00 Freelancers #1 is a lot of fun. It's not going to change your life or win an Eisner, but you will definitely have a good time with this comic. You've got the perfect formula-hot girls, guns, cars, kung-fu, and dogs. What more could any red-blooded American male want? Ian Brill takes parts of existing pop culture icons and combines them into an action packed comic, that's a TON of fun to read. Part Charlie's Angels, part Codename: Knockout, this comic is action from start to finish. You've got the two main characters that work for an agent that may or may not be 100% on their side. Brill sets up a good mystery that leaves you wondering if their agent is trying to get them jobs or trying to get them killed. I can't emphasise enough how much pure fun this book is! It's a great spy/bounty hunter tale that never takes itself seriously at all. It knows what it is, and never tries to be anything different. Really good for a first issue [...] |
| Posted: 07 Nov 2012 05:30 PM PST  If you have stumbled across my twitter account, chased me to any of the other sites I contribute to, stopped to look at the image attached to my profile-of-Doom, or taken a close look at the banner for this little series, you might begin to deduce that I am into cycling. It's the truth, I am a lycra-wearing, two-wheeling, bell-ringing, cycling fool. In truth, cycling is really the only sport I actually care about, though a few years ago that wasn't the case. When it came time to get in shape I decided that a bike would be my means to a healthier life. Cycling is a low impact activity, which is important to a bigger dude because just the act of carrying all your weight can present challenges to various work-outs like running. If you are really interested in the play by play of that story I created a Tumblr account when I started riding and chronicled everything up until a short while ago. It's fun to re-read now and hear the excitement in my words over riding 10 miles and then to see the transformation to riding 100 miles a year later, and eventually to my first race earlier in 2012 [...] |

It introduces a formidable supervillain named Orlana, a powerful magician who can manipulate and control the minds of others. She uses this ability to enslave her kinsmen and build a kingdom. Kon and his ally Serke make a foolish and ill-fated attempt to invade Orlana's kingdom. In defeat, Kon abandons Serke and runs off into another dimension and vows to return. Meanwhile, Orlana ensnares Serke into her web of influence and corrupts his mind. On his return Kon reaches out to some fellow warriors to join him on his quest to take down the evil princess. The first portion of Charismagic: The Death Princess #1 is a prologue to the actual story. Personal bias: I'm not usually a fan of prologues and tend to skim them whenever I read a novel or comic. Writer Vince Hernandez introduces Orlana and Kon to the readers with a brief, narration-heavy opening that flies through Orlana's childhood and Kon's over-ambitious attack on her empire. I had difficulty paying attention to this section. The magic world and its backstory are intricately planned and detailed, but much of this information might be better conveyed if it's sprinkled into the action [...] |
| Paramount Decides Not To Move Forward With ‘Top Gun 2′ For Now Posted: 07 Nov 2012 02:36 PM PST  It's a bit difficult to address the issue of the status of Top Gun 2 without being reminded of the tragic suicide of Tony Scott. In the days after the director took his own life, many of the projects that he was developing came to a halt, but Paramount was still deciding whether or not it would be proper to continue on without the director who brought the first film to the big screen. There is also the issue of the post-3D conversion of the film that was suppose to hit theaters later on next year. Now the New York Times is reporting that Top Gun 2 has stalled and it's not likely that production for the sequel will move forward. The report didn't provide any details as to how Paramount came to this decision, but it looks as if the studio did not want to appear to be insensitive to the Scott family by replacing Tony with another director [...] |
| Comic Review: Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #7 Posted: 07 Nov 2012 12:17 PM PST  Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #7 Plot & Script by Eric Trautmann Plot & Art Direction by Alex Ross Art by Daniel Indro Colors by Slamet Mujiono Letters by Simon Bowland Covers by Alex Ross & Francesco Francavilla Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: November 7, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #7 is, quite literally, a tour de force. And I don't even know what that means. But whatever it means, I'm sure it can be used to describe this issue. It's by far the best of the series to date, and that's saying something. Now, if Dynamite could only figure out how to get this book out on time... Writers Eric Trautmann and Alex Ross have a love of these characters that almost rivals.... me. I can't tell which of the two is the bigger fan of Flash Gordon. There's some FANTASTIC Easters eggs thrown into this book from previous incarnations of Flash Gordon, ranging from the 1980 live action movie (look at that cover!) to the 1979-1980 cartoon series by Filmation. This is the epic conclusion of the first storyline, and it's not without its shocks and surprises. I have to admit, the story plays a little too close to the feature film for my tastes; I wish it would've been a little more original, but it's still a great ending to an awesome first arc. Just about every single loose end is tied up, and what's left open will have your imagination running wild the moment you close the back cover [...] |
| Posted: 07 Nov 2012 10:22 AM PST  After working on the last four installments of Harry Potter, director David Yates was looking for some new employment and settled on a new adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan. Now that he has gotten the deal that he wanted, Yates is looking for some actors to take on the role and he has already settled on rising stars like Henry Cavill, Charlie Hunnam, Alexander Skarsgård, and Tom Hardy for the lead role. Vulture reports that Yates committed to the project on Monday and is meeting with the aforementioned names soon. Hardy seems like a shoe in for the role since he had some big roles in Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, but Charlie Hunnam also has a role in Pacific Rim, and Henry Cavill plays as Superman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, both pics are under the WB name. I imagine that WB wants to get the ball rolling on this project sooner rather than later and might not want to wait on the results of Pacific Rim and Man of Steel [...] |

I know what you're thinking...but trust me, this is a VERY VERY GOOD THING. Bringing in a brand new writer is always tough, but Dynamite Entertainment certainly picked a fantastic person to take the job. Brand new author Victor Gischler explodes onto this title with a really solid issue. It's one that clearly and totally sets up a whole new attitude for The Shadow. Instead of starting off with a giant, sprawling, epic, multi-part story, Gischler offers up an action packed one-shot that delves into the mind and heart of LaMont Cranston, and, as a result, The Shadow. He takes The Shadow back to his roots in Nepal where he was trained and studied under a mysterious group of Monks and where he learned how to cloud men's minds and see what evil lurks within them. It's a tale of self discovery and self awareness, and it's a very entertaining read. Gischler packs more characterization into one issue than a lot of writers do in an entire six-issue story arc [...] |
| Trailer For Next ‘Skyrim’ DLC ‘Dragonborn’ Released Posted: 07 Nov 2012 07:30 AM PST  Another DLC add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been announced by Bethesda Softworks. The add-on, titled Dragonborn, will be released on December 4th, and you'll be able to pick it up for 1200 Microsoft points. Not much is known about it yet, but as you can see in the trailer, it involves the first dragonborn. It also looks like those dragon mounts that were rumored recently are legit, but no word on the return to Morrowind yet. [...] |
