Watch Now: ‘Hitman: Absolution’ Contracts Mode Lets You Choose The Targets

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 05:20 PM PDT

Hitman: Absolution Image

We've seen plenty of great previews of the upcoming IO Interactive and Square Enix title Hitman: Absolution, but, as it turns out, the game will offer a lot more than just a great single-player campaign for fans of the series.

Absolution will also have online gameplay options, but not the kind you're used to. You won't be jumping into a map with 14 other Agent 47s running around trying to kill each other. Instead, you'll get to compete with friends and others online in something called Contracts Mode.

Watch Now: Director Rian Johnson Secretly Introduces ‘Looper’ At Midnight Screening

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 03:50 PM PDT

Looper

Rian Johnson's Looper opens this weekend. The film (read our review here), which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, puts a unique twist on time travel. Most theater chains hold a midnight screening for every major film, and Johnson thought it might be fun to introduce his film at a midnight screening held at the Arclight in Hollywood. The catch is that he never told anyone in the audience that he was coming, nor did he identify himself.

Check out the hilarious video here below.

For those who may not live in the Los Angeles area, the Arclight Theater is one of the premiere theaters in Southern California. Before the start of every film, an usher comes in to introduce what you are about to watch, ensures that he will stay until the presentation is perfect, and ask you to please turn off any electronic devices [...]

Marc Webb Will Direct ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′

Marc Webb

After The Amazing Spider-Man debuted, there was a little debate as to whether or not director Marc Webb would return to helm its sequel. Webb was contractually obligated to give Fox another feature film within the next few years, because they were the ones who had helped finance and distribute (500) Days of Summer.

However, it looks like he may have straightened a few things out with the studio as a Columbia Pictures press release reveals that Webb is set to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The press release also confirmed that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone would reprise their respective roles [...]

Martin Freeman and Eddi Marsan Join The World's End

Production for Edgar Wright's The World's End, the third installment of the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, has already begun. Wright reunites with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in a comedy that involves heavy drinking and a possible apocalyptic event. Earlier this year, the film added Paddy Considine and Rosamund Pike to the cast. Now we are learning that two more actors will be joining them as well.

Focus Features announced that Martin Freeman (Shaun of the Dead, The Hobbit) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) will be joining Pegg, Frost, Considine, and Pike. According to Empire, Freeman and Marsan's characters will be part of a group of friends who try to complete an epic pub crawl they did 20 years ago. No word yet on who Pike will be playing, but it is assumed that she could play a love interest to one of the characters, presumably Pegg's character [...]

DreamWorks Testing Unknowns For Lead Role In ‘Need For Speed’

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Need For Speed

Ever since the Fast and Furious franchise shifted its gears from street racing to high-speed heists, there has been a lack of high-octane street racing films. Sure enough DreamWorks will fill that void by adapting the very popular street racing video game Need for Speed. The studio was even thinking about making this a starring vehicle for Liam Hemsworth.

But with Hemsworth's stock being as high as it is, I imagine DreamWorks would have a difficult time signing the actor on for a possible film franchise. A new report from Deadline says that DreamWorks and Act of Valor director Scott Waugh will no longer pursue Hemsworth as a possible lead. Instead they are going to test younger unknown actors to take the part. The report says that the two people on the top of their list are Home and Away stars Brenton Thwaites and Luke Bracey [...]

Now Fox is getting in the game of signing creative minds for their Marvel properties. In a press release, the studio announced that they've signed Mark Milliar (creator of Kick-Ass and Wanted) as a creative consultant on the Marvel properties they own [...]

Looper Poster

Looper
Directed by: Rian Johnson
Written by: Rian Johnson
Starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Piper Perabo, Jeff Daniels
FilmDistrict | TriStar Pictures
Rated | 118 Minutes
Release Date: September 28, 2012

There year is 2044. Time travel has not yet been invented, but thirty years from now it will have been. When underground criminal syndicates in the future need someone gone, they zap 'em back to Loopers like Joe Simmons (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who do the necessaries.

In 2074, it's impossible to properly dispose of a body -- too many high-tech gadgets like global positioning implants -- so those ever-resourceful criminals illegally transport their targets back in time so Loopers can erase them from the future.

Looper, written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom), is a science-fiction film noir that seamlessly blends futuristic elements with the world we already know. Old, beat-up gas guzzlers have been retrofitted with solar panels and electric batteries while the rich drive sporty, state-of-the-art speeder bikes. The designer drugs of the future are taken with an eye dropper, and Loopers like Joe are paid in bricks of silver for blasting bound-and-gagged future dwellers with their blunderbusses: short, large caliber boomsticks that obliterate targets at close range [...]
